Blue Wood Phlox
Phlox divaricata)

Blue wood phlox grows in partial shade and prefers moist open woods and thickets.  When it is happy, it forms large clumps.  This phlox and the similar Fuller's phlox are delightful plants for the home garden as well as for woodland plots.

Other names for this phlox are blue phlox, wild blue phlox, woodland phlox and Sweet-William phlox.  The flowers are generally pale blue, though they may be white.  The garden varieties may have dark blue blossoms as well.
