Confiscated Coyote Pups Back in the Wild

Checked into Hospital: 07/06/05
Release Date: 10/02/05

These coyotes were confiscated by the Missouri Department of Conservation and brought to Lakeside Nature Center, where they were swiftly transferred to a mammal rehabilitation volunteer.  The volunteer had her work cut out for her because these coyotes were kept as pets until confiscated.  Not only is it illegal to keep a native Missouri mammal or bird, but it is unhealthy for the animal.  Making pets out of wild animals often makes them unreleasable due to the behaviors they learn in captivity.  Fortunately, these coyotes were made wild again and were released on MDC land where they have plenty of space and a wonderful habitat.
