Project Blue River Rescue

April 5 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Join Friends of Lakeside Nature Center and Little Blue River Watershed Coalition for the 35th annual Project Blue River Rescue. You will help to pick up storm drain trash along banks and illegal dumps on adjacent roads.

To register, complete one registration for an individual and only one registration for a group. Groups will be able to specify the number of volunteers in their group.

You must register online here.

A hot dog lunch will be served from 11 am -1 pm. After picking up trash at your site a hot dog lunch will be served from 11 am – 1 pm at  Lakeside Nature Center.

Every year volunteers find unique ‘trash treasures’. Bring your finds to the trash contest at noon during lunch at Lakeside Nature Center. The crowd will decide the winners.

Dress for the weather and bring your own water.

Individuals will pick up supplies in a drive thru line at Lakeside Nature Center (4701 E. Gregory, KCMO) on the day of the event.

Drive through only – no parking. Please do not get out of your car; we will come to you. Please be patient.

For Groups, we will contact you about getting your site assignment and supplies before the event.

For questions, contact info@littleblueriverwc.org

Thank you for your interest in caring for the Blue River watershed.

Safety Precautions:

– Wear closed toe shoes, long pants and gloves. We will provide gloves if needed.
– Only pick-up trash on public property. No trespassing onto private property.
– Use the buddy system and please stay within view of one other person of the group at all times.
– Watch your footing and stay out of the water.
– Mud may be deep so be aware of muddy areas before walking into them.
– We are only cleaning up non-hazardous items (such as bottles, cans, items found in common household trash).
– Leave any questionable, hazardous (paint cans, containers with chemicals, car batteries, etc.), dangerous (broken glass, needle, weapon)  or unknown object where it is. Notify one of the cleanup leaders of its location and group will return to the area to remove those items properly.
– Do not put any dead animals into the trash bags. We can let nature take its course with scavengers.
– If you need help at any time, wave your arms above your head to notify the other people in the group. As mentioned before, please stay within view of another person at all times and use the buddy system.
– In case of an emergency, please call 911.
– Have fun! Thank you for your interest in volunteering to improve the Blue River Watershed.
